Hannover

Historic Hanover is an important commercial center with a university and academies of music and drama, it’s certainly a city worth visiting for those seeking a fun city experience in Germany. Its extensive parks and gardens justify Hanover’s claim to be “the city in the country,” and make it an ideal destination to explore on foot. Hanover’s lovely marketplace, is located in the center of the historic Old Town and is where you’ll find many of the city’s most important buildings.

Once a pleasure palace and later summer residence of the Saxon royals, is the city’s most beautiful recreational resort for both Dresdeners and tourists from all over the world. Situated only about 15 km from the city center of the Saxon state capital of Dresden.

Weesenstein castle, 1 h. stop 20€

Weesenstein Castle is a majestic site perched on its wooded eyrie above the valley and proud to host a highly respected exhibition about the history of the buildings and their former owners but also provides cultural and culinary offers.

Bastei is the most famous rock formation in Saxon Switzerland, Germany. From the Bastei rocks and the Bastei Bridge you have a wonderful panoramic view over the mountains.

Terezín is a fortress built by the Enlightenment ruler Josef II and although the building named after his mother Maria Theresa was supposed to be used for defence, it paradoxically became infamous first of all as a prison, and later during World War Two as a Jewish ghetto and concentration camp

Dresden is a gracious and beautiful city to simply enjoy, its many sights. One of the Europe’s greatest Baroque cities, 30 kilometers north of the border with the Czech Republic, stands majestically astride the Elbe River. In fact it’s hard to believe that the city was all but wiped off the map by Allied bombings in 1945.

Moritzburg, 1 h. stop 20€

Moritzburg Palace is one of the most impressive baroque palaces in central Europe. Reached via a tree-lined avenue, it is situated on an island in the middle of a lake. After visiting the palace, you can enjoy a romantic stroll to the enchanting Fasanenschlösschen (little pheasant castle) built in the rococo style.

town compelling, with its soaring Gothic cathedral, fairy-tale castle and wonderful Elbe Valley views. The town has become famous all over the world for its porcelain, which features the mark of the blue crossed swords.

Make sure that magnificent Sanssouci Palace and Park will be on your itinerary.

 

Leipzig, 1 – 2 h. stop 30€ – 40

Saxony’s coolest city for nomadic young creatives, but it’s also a city of enormous a history going back almost 1,000 years, a trade-fair centre and solidly in the sights of music lovers due to its intrinsic connection to the lives and work of Bach, Mendelssohn and Wagner.

A Unesco World Heritage city, Quedlinburg rests below a sandstone cliff that has an abbey and palace on top. Quedlinburg has been left with enigmatic Ottonian and Romanesque architecture from the High Middle Ages when a long succession of Abbesses held sway from the cliff-top. Over five centuries, merchants and artisans built hundreds of half-timbered houses down the slope in the old town and on the Münzenberg hill. There are more than 1,300 half-timbered buildings in all, which may make you wonder if you’ve stepped into the realm of fantasy.
