However, many of the medieval buildings in the Old Town have been painstakingly restored to their former glory. Most of the top attractions in Nuremberg are located within the historic walls, which extend some five kilometers around the Old Town.

Ingolstadt, 1 h. stop 25€

Ingolstadt is the headquarters of the car manufacturer Audi with an old town of gabled merchants’ houses, neatly preserved and encircled by a Neoclassical system of fortifications from the 19th century. Now the old redoubt, tower and cavalier are museums, while the city they protected has haunting Gothic and Medieval churches and civic buildings that go all the way back to the 13th and 14th centuries.
